My Roman novels continue the adventures of Marcellina (Cellina) and Gaius, the young sister and brother introduced in “The Secret of the Red Mullet.” Children of a pagan senator and a Christian aristocrat, as Cellina and Gaius grow older they must come to terms with their mixed religious heritage.

WINDS FROM THE EAST is set sixteen years after a deadly riot over the bishop’s succession. Cellina has just turned fourteen, an age when Roman girls are expected to turn their thoughts to marriage. But Cellina is more interested in following her nose for trouble. Inquisitive, intelligent, and impulsive, Cellina’s curiosity will draw her family into the vortex of a conspiracy involving her pagan father’s secretary and the powerful Bishop of Rome.

Two sequels have been drafted: WISDOM’S HIDING PLACE, in which a slain rabbi, stolen scrolls, and a Hebrew amulet believed to possess supernatural powers lead Gaius and Cellina down a path edged with murder and magic when they rashly promise to help the dead man’s beautiful daughter, and BLOOD SACRIFICE.
